Renewable Waste: Gasification technology a reality

Creating renewable energy from waste is something that has been fodder for discussion in sustainability circles for quite a while. A city in Florida is now making it a reality.

Through a gasification process created by MaxWest Environmental Systems, Sanford, Florida, is now satisfying some of its natural gas demand by recycling wastewater sludge.

While turning waste—in its various forms—into energy also is fodder for humorists everywhere, it’s great to see a community benefit from the technology. Sanford is the first, but certainly will not be the last.
